Gayle Silver
Gayle is an AFAA Certified Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Pilates instructor. She has been a fitness professional for over 20 years and has taught just about everything! Early in her career, Gayle worked part-time as a personal trainer and fitness instructor while also working as a Social Worker in a mental health center in Key West, Florida. Her last Social Work job at Duke was with a multidisciplinary team that focused on disease management and prevention for diseases such as diabetes and hypertension which helped her understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. In 2005, Gayle left Social Work to pursue her passion in the fitness industry full-time and in 2017 opened FIT on Main. In 2022, Gayle and Lauren joined forces to reopen FIT on Main as the new and improved FIT Carrboro. Gayle believes that fitness and wellness require an integrative approach to develop a healthy body and mind. She has worked with an extraordinarily diverse population ranging from 3 to 93-year-olds. She's has helped people prepare and recover from joint replacement surgery (including knee, shoulder, and hip) and has collaborated with mental health professionals, physicians, physical therapists, acupuncturists, and chiropractors to ensure a safe and positive experience for their clients. Gayle has also trained youth athletes, competitive horseback riders, runners, and golfers (among others!) to help them achieve their performance goals. In her training, Gayle believes in functional exercises that utilize the whole body and enhance quality of life. She specializes in Pilates, which she believes is a powerful exercise modality that prevents injury and enhances the ability to do other physical tasks and sports well. She is also certified in TRX Suspension Training, Kettlebells, and Corrective Exercise as well as a range of other modalities. Gayle believes each session should be fun and unique to achieve results, alleviate boredom, and help each client meet their goals. When Gayle is not personal training or teaching classes, she loves to see live music, go to the beach and mountains, and spend time with family and friends. Gayle lives in Chapel Hill with her husband and two daughters, ages 12 and 13.

Early on in her career, internships at Duke Diet & Fitness Center and Shane Diet & Fitness Resorts allowed Lauren to learn how to integrate exercise, behavior change, nutrition, education, medicine, and fun into a wellness plan for individual clients. Personal training work and group fitness teaching in several commercial gym settings introduced Lauren to a wide range of clients from ages 10 to 85 and gave her the opportunity to learn how to adapt fitness programs to many levels of athletes with a wide range of skill sets. Her own interests in activities like strength training, yoga, Pilates, OCR (obstacle course racing), running, gymnastics, and functional mobility work give her clients’ training programs a unique focus on physical form and function. In addition to exercise instruction, Lauren is also an amateur home chef with an experimental palette and interest in healthy family meal preparation. Her background in sports nutrition means her approach to healthy eating is flexible and non-restricted. Follow her menu photo journaling on Instagram for inspiring recipe ideas. Lauren is a native of western North Carolina and grew up in Hillsborough. Outside of work, you can find Lauren spending time hiking along the Eno with her husband, cooking, eating, reading, watching sports, trying out new fitness classes in the Triangle, and spending time with her family and friends. The mountains are her happy place.

Personal Trainer
Anna Martin
In her almost 20 years of experience in the field, Anna brings a background working with varied populations. The bulk of her experience is in working with clients with orthopedic issues, diabetes and metabolic disorders, as well as neurological and movement disorders. She has taught group exercise classes in Yoga and Pilates and uses these skills to help clients one on one with balance, flexibility, and core stability. Anna’s passion is to help clients enjoy movement and celebrate their bodies for their abilities and strength. Her goal is to train clients safely, and help clients learn to be more comfortable in their bodies. Anna also has a background in nutrition and can help clients appreciate food and nourishment for comfort and for performance. She would like to help clients get in touch with their bodies and what makes them feel their healthiest and most efficient. Anna believes that a client can want a change or improvement and can also be gentle, kind, and content with their body. Anna started at Appalachian State University as a Theatre Arts major. One elective in Nutrition and Health her freshman year and she changed her major to Health Promotion and Nutrition. After graduation, she moved back to Charlotte where she grew up and began working at the Harris YMCA. It was at the YMCA where she was able to find many mentors in different areas - wellness programming, outreach, exercise and group fitness but it was personal training that really stuck! During her time as a trainer at the YMCA and with Prescriptive Fitness, many of her clients were medical referrals from local hospitals as patients were transitioning from physical therapy to more independent exercise. After working at the YMCA for five years, Anna moved to the triangle and has called it home ever since. She has worked for personal training studios, and for Duke and WakeMed hospital systems in wellness and cardiac rehabilitation. During her time at Duke she created and led the Parkinson's Exercise Group, learning from and offering support to the patients as they navigated a diagnosis. It was teaching this class where Anna learned to meet her clients where they are and celebrate every successful movement! Since leaving Duke, Anna has studied Nutritional Sciences at North Carolina Central University and has an anti-diet and intuitive eating philosophy about food. She prioritizes enjoyment in both nourishment and movement and wants to help clients rediscover their natural cues and nurture their relationships with their bodies. She strives to cultivate an environment of joy and respect for what our bodies are capable of during each personal training session.
